Genesis 1:1 says "In the beginning, God..." He was there- already. He didn't begin there; he has no beginning. Can you wrap your mind around that? I can't. Yet, if He had a beginning, we would have to question "How?" and "Who?" When God spoke to Moses from the burning bush, He said, "I am who I am". That rather enigmatic statement seems to me to confirm his eternal existence. When God sent Moses to lead the Israelites out of their slavery in Egypt, He instructed Moses to "tell them that I AM sent me to you". I AM...the One who is, who exists, and who always has existed.
A ring has been used to symbolize eternity. It has no beginning, and no end; it goes on and on- forever. Our God is eternal- He is, and was, and ever will be!
Before creation, God already knew us and loved us. He knew, too, that we would rebel and turn away from Him. So, from the beginning, He had a plan to draw us back to Himself through His only Son, Jesus. We, His elect, can point to a beginning- because He is our Creator. But the wonderful plan of God's is that we will enjoy eternity with Him.
Great God, how infinite art thou! How poor and weak are we!
Let the whole race of creatures bow, and pay their praise to thee.
Thy throne eternal ages stood, ere seas or stars were made:
Thou art the ever-living God, were all the nations dead.

Words are inadequate to describe the joy, comfort and hope that comes with knowing our God is eternal.... from Everlasting to Everlasting He is the same. We can count on Him! Praise the Name of the Lord, Everlasting God, Creator of the ends of the earth!
