“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (vs. 3) Wow, what an appropriate question for our day! What shall we do when our laws are not upheld, when morality is undermined and evil continues on unchecked? What shall we do when the Bible is undermined and its teachings ignored – when even churchgoers seem to support the rising tide of secularism? What shall we do when family values are crumbling and frequent divorce sweeps forward with increasing damage to children, parents, and society alike? What can we do when everything around us seems to be giving way? David’s response was to take refuge in the Lord – to look up! Our holy, omniscient, omnipresent, righteous God is “in his holy temple…on his heavenly throne”. (vs. 4) And, for those of us who are in Christ, we will one day “see his face”! (vs. 7) Paul encourages us in 2 Corinthians, Chapter 4 to “fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (vs. 18) The writer of Hebrews commends Moses in chapter 11 for “looking ahead to his reward” (vs. 26). We can look at our foundations being destroyed against the backdrop of one day seeing his face and reflecting his glory and have hope! As one of the characters on the “Li’l Praisers” CD that I listen to in the car with my grandchildren says, “It makes me want to sing and dance and play instruments and throw open my window and yell out PRAISE THE LORD!”
Lord, give me an eternal perspective that doesn’t fear when I see the foundations being destroyed and “flee like a bird to your mountain” when things look bleak, but looks to you and trusts that you are working all things for our good and for your glory.

He alone is to be our "strong habitation whereunto (we) may continually resort..." and I want to flee often from the troubles that assail us, our families and this nation!
