I would also add that of ourselves we are not close to being any of them (really not in the same universe). We are nothing like God. We are so unlike him that our wildest imagination can only be teased when we meditate on God's character. Only through knowing God, can we begin to see a piece of what good really means.
Good is radical. Good is unfathomable. Good is not random it is specific. Good is deliberate yet Good is unexpected. Good requires no reward. Good demands a response. Good is God...always.
Lamentations 3:25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him.
Matthew 7:11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!
Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.
Titus 3:4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us.
Last Sunday, my uncle died. He was 94. We say "God was good to give him such a long life."
A couple of days ago, a young child, who rode the bus to school with Jesse, died -- totally unexpectedly. He was 7. We don't usually follow that with "God was good"...but He is.
We constantly look at God from our perspective and through our experience and then evaluate Him. Our perspective is skewed and our experience is grossly inadequate to ever use these to understand the Almighty Holy God.
God is good. We are not.
We are forgiven...We are redeemed...
but only God is good.
Only He is holy.

Thank you for reminding us of the Truth that God is Good - no matter what our circumstances are!
